8 Weeks Before Moving Day
- ☐Book your moving company — the earlier the better, especially in summer
- ☐Set your moving budget and get at least one written estimate
- ☐Start decluttering — donate, sell, or discard what you won't bring
- ☐Notify your landlord or list your home for sale
- ☐Research your new neighborhood — schools, utilities, services
4 Weeks Before Moving Day
- ☐Order packing supplies — boxes, tape, bubble wrap, markers
- ☐Start packing non-essentials: books, seasonal items, décor
- ☐Notify USPS of your address change
- ☐Update your address with banks, subscriptions, and employers
- ☐Transfer or cancel local memberships (gym, library, etc.)
- ☐Schedule utility disconnection at old home and connection at new home
2 Weeks Before Moving Day
- ☐Confirm your moving date and time with A Friend With A Truck
- ☐Pack room by room — label every box with contents and destination room
- ☐Arrange childcare or pet care for moving day
- ☐Collect important documents: birth certificates, insurance, leases
- ☐Defrost and clean the refrigerator if it's moving with you
1 Week Before Moving Day
- ☐Finish packing all rooms except daily essentials
- ☐Pack an overnight bag with clothes, toiletries, phone charger, and snacks
- ☐Disassemble large furniture if needed
- ☐Clean out your car and make sure it's fueled up
- ☐Confirm parking and elevator access at both locations
Moving Day
- ☐Be present when the crew arrives — do a walkthrough together
- ☐Point out fragile or high-value items
- ☐Do a final sweep of every room, closet, and cabinet
- ☐Check all appliances are off and windows are closed
- ☐Hand over keys and garage openers to new owners or landlord
- ☐Do a walkthrough at the new home as items are unloaded
After the Move
- ☐Unpack essentials first: bedding, kitchen basics, bathroom
- ☐Check all boxes arrived and nothing is damaged
- ☐Update your driver's license and vehicle registration
- ☐Register to vote at your new address
- ☐Introduce yourself to your new neighbors
