Packing Smart
Start earlier than you think
Most people underestimate how long packing takes. Start with rooms you use least — guest rooms, storage areas, seasonal items — at least 4–6 weeks out.
One box, one room
Never mix items from different rooms in the same box. It makes unpacking far slower and increases the chance of things getting lost.
Label every side of the box
Label the top and at least one side with the room and a brief description of contents. Boxes get stacked — you need to read the label without moving anything.
Heavy items in small boxes
Books, tools, and dishes go in small boxes. Light items like linens and pillows can fill large boxes. This keeps everything manageable and prevents box failure.
Use clothing and linens as padding
Wrap fragile items in t-shirts, towels, and blankets. It saves on bubble wrap and means your soft goods are doing double duty.
Timing Your Move
Book early — especially in summer
June through August is peak moving season in Maine. The best crews book up weeks in advance. If you're moving in summer, reach out as soon as you have a date.
Mid-week moves are often cheaper
Weekends are the most in-demand days. If your schedule allows, a Tuesday or Wednesday move can save you money and give you more flexibility.
Give yourself a buffer day
Don't schedule your first day of work or a major commitment the day after moving day. Things always take longer than expected, and you'll want time to settle in.
Maine winters add time
If you're moving in winter, build extra time into your schedule. Snow, ice, and cold temperatures slow everything down — and we take extra care to protect your floors and belongings.

Be there when we arrive
A quick walkthrough at the start helps us understand your priorities, identify fragile items, and plan the most efficient load order. It saves time and prevents misunderstandings.
Clear a path
Before we arrive, clear hallways, stairs, and doorways of anything that could slow us down or cause a trip hazard. The faster we can move, the less time you're billed for.
Keep valuables with you
Jewelry, important documents, medications, and irreplaceable items should travel with you in your personal vehicle — not on the truck.
Have snacks and water ready
Moving is physical work. A cooler with water and some snacks for the crew goes a long way — and it's just good Maine hospitality.
Special Situations
Moving with kids
Pack a 'first night' bag for each child with their favorite toys, a change of clothes, and comfort items. Keep them occupied during the move and involve them in setting up their new room first.
Moving with pets
Arrange for pets to stay with a friend or in a quiet room away from the activity. The noise and open doors of moving day are stressful for animals.
Snowbird moves
If you're heading south for the winter, give yourself extra time to winterize your Maine home before you leave. We can coordinate your move date around your departure schedule.
Estate cleanouts
If you're clearing a loved one's home, take your time deciding what to keep. We work at your pace and can coordinate donation pickups and disposal so you don't have to manage multiple vendors.
